We say Hercules was the most powerful man to walk the earth. After all, he completed twelve highly improbable labours! I won’t call them impossible tasks even though many people do… because well it was done right? But, we the students, surely beat him hollow, we perform twelve thorny tasks daily!

Here is every student’s saga which is totally worth getting written about in some epic, which is well beyond my calibre, and therefore this humble attempt …. But yeah it’s a heartfelt attempt!
Our labours start every morning at about 6a.m. … oh yes! This task is called waking up. That excruciating pain of leaving your comfortable bed… you won’t believe how much willpower that takes especially now in winters. The sound of the alarm or your mom calling you is torture! To keep your temper in control at that time is truly one tough labour! It’s almost equal to Hercules’s task of kidnapping Cerberus (the underworld’s canine guardian) because we have to almost kidnap our consciousnesses from the comforting arms of sleep… where it wants to stay!
Next is taking a bath in this winter season… OH GOD! That first drop of cold water that falls on your body while adjusting the hot water tap … is DEADLY and on top of that, there is that extreme cold that grips us after the bath SPEECHLESS, it’s exactly like Hercules’s killing of the hydra (when you chop off one of the hydra’s many heads… two more grow back) because when we conquer the actual task of bathing, we have to then face that abnormal cold!
The third labour may not apply to all … it’s walking a really long way to the bus stop, with that heavy bag … especially when you are late! And the worst part is that when you actually reach the bus stop … running and out of breath.. You find that the bus has not arrived yet!! That when it feels like the capturing of the Cretan bull … wasting all your energy to capture a big bad bull (here the bus) for no reason at all.
The fourth one is the least difficult … yes it’s a lot of work but at least it’s with your friends and there are quite a few laughs… it’s like capturing the cerynian hind (where Hercules just had to please arternis). So do your homework, please your teachers and you are through for the day!
The fifth labour is downright dreadful … think of the time when you reach home from school… tired and falling apart… you have your lunch just sit on your bed and your tuition teacher arrives! That is the killing geryon (he had three chests..  So if you pierced one, he will just live on the other two while the other one heals) because you have to face triple troubles..1) The drowsiness 2) the subject 3) your teacher’s questions.
The sixth one is universal…  it’s having to study the subject you like the least! Do I really like to describe what that feels like? It’s as impossible as stealing the golden apples of immortality from the hesperides and their pet dragon! But like Hercules we too manage that’s true talent!!
The one thing I hate doing (most of my friends do too) is arranging my cupboard and cleaning my room! Who cares whether your clothes are not folded or if there’s dust on the bookshelf? It’s totally like Hercules cleaning of the stinkiest stable in Greece the augean stable. No desire to do it but forced to! That sumps it up quite well and that, my friends was the seventh task.
Oh wow!! we hate the eighth one! It’s not being allowed to watch TV while your grandmother watches it in full volume … “sigh” it’s like the stynphalian birds task (where the flesh eating birds could be chased away only through loud noise .. ) in this case though , I feel more like those birds than Hercules but yeah it’s a labour good and true to bear it!!
This is tear jerking … the ninth labour is SAD!! It’s watching master chef and the TLC food programme while what you actually get to eat is rice, daal and vegetables!! we try to convince ourselves that our food is good too… like Hippolyta convincing herself that it was okay to give her girdle away to Hercules but of course.. it was not!!
The tenth is just too hard, its having to study after dinner … when you are full and satisfied and sleepy! It makes me feel like using matchsticks to keep my eyes open …( like one of our all-time favourite cartoon character “hint-a feline”). It’s almost as bad as having to kill a really heavy erymanthean boar (yeah Hercules had to do that). The boar here being our eyelids… almost impossible to defeat.. now you understand our capabilities ??
The eleventh one now that one is just unfair. It’s when you complaint to your parents that sitting and studying after dinner is really difficult but they tell you to take the book to the bed!! ( As if it solves the problem!!) it’s like trying to defeat the Neman lion  (poor Hercules)!! That impenetrable mind of our parents that incredibly strong boredom of the subject!! But yeah like the Neman lion’s fur protected Hercules later on that extra bit of study protects us from a breakdown before the exams.. so I grudgingly thank you mom for forcing me to study!!
The twelfth labour is frustrating because you cannot blame anyone for it… your own body becomes your foe. It’s when you have to wake in the middle of your peaceful slumber to visit the bathroom. My bladder becomes impossible to restrain as impossible as the mares of  diomedes!!  (I feel for you Hercules!!)  And to top it all, there will be a creepy bug in the bathroom which will scare me and my sleep will go galloping away!! ( Like the mares if you didn’t get why I deliberately used “galloping”)
SO there was the list …
The WORST part is that right after the twelfth labour.. The first labour for the next comes right around …
Hercules did his labour only once … but we do it EVERYDAY … so who’s more powerful now ????
