Are
women safe in our country?
Indian culture generally is dismissive of
the real and apparent threats to women’s security. There have been numerous
incidents of rape and murder in public, where the rapists and murderers are protected;
Governments are increasingly focused on increasing the effectiveness of police
action and legal consequences of crimes against women, but it appears at times
it is not wholly effective.
Women are the major part of the society.
Our experiences have taught us several lessons that the society is no more
serene. It is filled with criminals who are invisible to common eyes. There are
thousands and thousands of incidents free residential areas in many states of
India. Probably they are lucky or diligently protected by the safety methods.
Police is also the part of the society. We need to employ only the honest and
quality people in the police force. policemen who have amassed wealth by their
connection with criminals must be discharged from service. Reforming the police
force can help preventing the crimes. The political will to create healthy
societies is vital. We have to eradicate poverty and illiteracy. We need a system
to streamline the basic moral education to all without fail. Judiciary too
needs to be monitored to function without corruption at least at the lowest
levels.
Religious people should not use religious
theme to spread hatred. Mature and conscientious people will never harm women
and children. Young children are the future of the world. Let us stop feeding
them the materialistic matters more than the morals. Schools should give camera
access to parents if they want to monitor. Please limit your choice of relationships
with people. Do not listen to people who lure you to alcohol. I have seen women
from very good families who are addicted to liqueur.
That’s the result of joining some reputed
clubs who boast about their best services to the people. Government has to be
responsible for the welfare of the society and every individual in the country.
Rowdies in corporate sectors are taking over the nations. They are not bothered
about culture or welfare of the people. They don’t have to take care of the
nation too. Our children are transforming to a new behavioral pattern to suit
the corporate’s needs.
We are losing the charm of family and community in the name of
corporate culture. Partying hard and using women at will are common now. It is
destroying our culture. Let not our greed for money and comfortable life sweep
away our values and morals. Do not let cinema, Television or theatre or
entertainments on internet take over our life's purpose. They are just
entertainments. They are not our life changers. Addiction to any of them can be
harmful to our psychology. They will drag us to the gutters. Young men and
women should be careful about their educational and professional career than
succumbing to lure of opposite sex much before settling down in life with
stable future, and on the other side number of rapes and assaults against women
are increasing. Situation is so worse that it was trending in social media
platforms with hashtag #rapecultureinIndia. This needs to be stopped
immediately and this could be only possible when we will unite and be aware.
The below statistics (last updated in 2017) shows the most
reported cases from each state. There are many such cases that go unreported.
Trend line of reported cases has always
been 70 percent higher than the number of cases solved with justice. Ironically in most of the cases victim suffers much more than
the Accused (Rapists).
What are the actions that must be taken?
1. Government must come up with a plan to take strict actions against the Rape accused. Fast Track Courts (FTCs) announced in year 2000 and Currently, there are only 664 fast track courts operational in the country.
2. Current law has dealt penalty for Rapists if accused is under 12. I believe this is a crime that should not be tolerated and all the cases must have dealt with penalty as punishment.
3. No action is taken against a Rapist if he is from Rich/affluent family. One example case is -Unnao.
4. As there is no strict law enforced, People know they can easily escape from law and order. There have been cases in which the Rapist has come out in bail and assaulted other women. And there have been cases where the rapist pleaded for mercy after few years.
5. Proper Sex Education in schools. Whatever we learn in our Teenage becomes foundation for rest of our lives. It is very important that proper etiquettes, and sex Education topics must be covered by teachers in schools. If you don't tell the difference between wrong and right in that age, No one else will.
6. Ban of Rape porn videos. What we see is what we perceive. All forced/rape porn videos must be immediately banned.
7. Do not vote for ministers who say “women should not go out at night and not wear particular kind of clothes; it was her fault” You cannot and should not justify someone's lust.
8. Government should get their priorities right. Instead of focusing on building more monuments the first priority should be safety of Citizens of India.
Things will change, only when we will understand our rights and policies provided by the government of India, and we need to stand or what is right, because today is someone else is the victim tomorrow you might be the one.
